HF MANAGER REMIGIJUS VAICIUS LY8O |
The first amateur radio contact from Lithuania has been established by B. Tolutis in year 1927 with French radio amateur . He used call sign LYT.He was an owner of the first official amateur radio license issued in Lithuania. That was in year 1932, and his first official callsign was LY1X. After invention of radio only long waves have been used, and when radio amateurs started to use HF they have found the great possibilities of HF. Before World War 2 there were lot of HF amateur radio stations in Lithuania. Some of them have been very active on HF bands and they have reached high results in HF international competitions. We remember P.Vanagaitis LY1J, K.Karkauskas LY1KK and others. We have a lot of high class radioamateurs today. Jonas Paskauskas LY2ZZ, who has confirmed contacts with radio amateurs from all 337 countries in DXCC list. One of the most honored radioamateurs is Giedrius Misiunas LY2CG. More than 50 years ago he has established HF club station at university in Siauliai, later HF club station at university in Vilnius. He was first from Lithuania, who started operating SSB on HF bands, also he was first, who started working RTTY. HF and VHF contesters are using software created by Giedrius.

13th January, 1991 : The Soviet Union has cracked down on it's latest area in
the Baltic republic looking for independence. Members of the Government
supported independence and encouraged it, but Moscow sent troops to take control
of the Television and Radio Centrex where 1,000 protesters had gathered to
protect them. Soldiers then smashed through the glass windows of the station and
overwhelmed defenders armed with sticks. The Soviet military then proceeded to
take control of Government buildings. During the Soviet crackdown 14 civilians
were killed and condemnation came from around the world on attacking a peaceful
and democratically elected government. Later in the year in September the Baltic
states of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia did gain full independence from the
Soviet Union and were admitted into the United Nations. WRTC 2010 RUSSIA
